Creating the Model Home Experience

September 20, 2022

Buying a home is one of the biggest purchases you’ll make in your lifetime. You want to be sure you’ve made the right choice of location, bed and bath count, square footage – all while working within your budget. If you’re buying a new construction home, your specific home may not be built and available for you to tour and it can be tricky to imagine how spaces will feel or envision how your furniture will fit within the floor plan.

Touring a model home is a great way to experience how a floor plan lives as well as find design inspiration, see a variety of finishes, and how to use rooms in different ways.

Our design team creates a warm, inviting environment in each of our model homes. We want to create a realistic, memorable visit from the moment you walk in the door. It should feel welcoming and comfortable – like you’re coming home or visiting good friends. We want you to relax and stay awhile.

When we designed the Claremont model home in Easton Park, we thought about who would live there, how they would live there, and what features and finishes these homeowners would select. This single-family home has four bedrooms, three baths, 2,874 square feet and would be perfect for our imagined young family, The Davises.

We envisioned Diego and Maggie, a couple in their mid-30s with five-year-old twins, Cecilia and Mateo, and their Lab-mix puppy, Peso. They’re multi-cultural, sporty, artsy, and adventurous so we needed a home experience that reflected their diverse background and unique lifestyle.

Maggie is an ad agency creative exec who loves embroidery, needlepoint, baking, and all things handmade. She works outside the home, but enjoys remote days in her media room/home office where she can also relax and work on her crafts.

Just outside her home office in the adjacent loft, we set up a coloring station. It’s easy to envision the convenience of having a dedicated workspace matched with an entertaining area to keep the kids close. The double doors are the perfect touch to ensure you have privacy when you need it.

Diego is a chef turned restaurant executive and works from home. He’s community oriented and started an “Easton Park Eats” Facebook group for foodies. They are both avid fans of international soccer and Austin’s own FC soccer team. He also coaches the twins’ soccer team so you find plenty of soccer memorabilia throughout the home.

We knew we had to incorporate lots of color, interactive touchpoints, and plenty of visual interest to make a lasting first impression.

Come in through the front door, just past the foyer, and your eye catches fun signage inviting you to explore the coat closet. Inside, we created a play space filled with costumes, toys, and colorful artwork – all designed to make the perfect hideaway for the kids.

We incorporated bold pops of blue in different shades including the tile floor in the powder room, the to-the-ceiling backsplash in the kitchen, the primary bath shower walls, and furniture pieces throughout. Color has been shown to help us retain information by drawing our eye and increasing our level of attention so it’s easy to remember all the things you loved about this home.

We included fun design elements to showcase the different ways you can infuse personality into a home. You’ll find playful wallpaper, a fun plate accent wall (over the margarita bar cart might we add), and artistic light fixtures throughout. Quirky artwork and stylish storage solutions are perfectly blended to create rooms that put the “fun” in “functional.”

The model home experience goes beyond what you see: We want to create a fully immersive, memorable tour and we do that in a variety of ways including scent and sound. We’ve curated playlists for an enjoyable ambiance with a hint of familiarity. After all, it’s easier to picture yourself living somewhere when you already hear your favorite song. Science has shown that scent, emotion, and memory are intertwined so to create a more memorable home tour, we created a custom scent for our model homes.

Your home is meant to be a place for play and we’ve incorporated interactive elements that invite you to hang out and stay awhile. Settle in on the comfortable couch and check out the motion-sensor portrait TV. Head out back and try some of the games. Have any questions? We have answers! Just say, “Alexa, Ask Brookfield…” and hear about community events, the amenities, ready-now homes, and so much more.

Touring a model home is not only educational during your search, but it’s a lot of fun too! Explore where we build in the Austin area and come experience one of our model homes in person. We’ll be expecting you!
