Trappe, Maryland, is a small town measuring just under 3 square miles but full of charm and natural beauty. Home to just over 1,000 people, Trappe is a fantastic place to enjoy quiet living and easy access to nature and water activities.

Between its idyllic location and proximity to major cities, the welcoming town of Trappe has a lot to offer.

Ideal Location

With its Eastern Shore location, Trappe gives you ideal access to several destinations. Cities like Easton, Seaford, Salisbury, and Annapolis are less than an hour’s drive away. Baltimore and Washington are within easy driving distance, allowing for day and weekend trips. Plus, the Atlantic Ocean is about an hour away if you want to take a trip to the coast.

Trappe’s location also provides easy access to local attractions like La Trappe Creek and the Choptank River, so if you want to spend time on the water, you don’t have to go far at all.

Tight-Knit School System

Just as Trappe is a small community, the tight-knit local school system means students can receive plenty of individualized attention and support. The Talbot County Public School system features five elementary schools:

  • Chapel District Elementary
  • Easton Elementary
  • St. Michaels Elementary
  • Tilghman Elementary
  • White Marsh Elementary

The distinct also includes three secondary schools:

  • Easton Middle
  • St. Michaels Middle High
  • Easton High

Those eight Talbot County Public Schools support 4,533 students, with a 40% minority enrollment, resulting in a diverse yet small student body. The schools have a 14:1 student-teacher ratio, with 98% of teachers certified and 87.2% having three or more years of experience.

Desirable Trappe Weather

Trappe has a desirable climate. The summers are warm and muggy, ideal for spending time on the water. While the winters are cold and snowy, temperatures rarely drop below 16 degrees Fahrenheit and typically range from 29 to 87 degrees Fahrenheit. Trappe’s longest day is June 20, with 14 hours and 52 minutes of daylight, ideal for outdoor enthusiasts.

Plenty of Outdoor Activities

Trappe is an oasis for nature lovers. You can bike through town or jog the paths at Home Run Baker Park. Bill Burton State Park is a 25-acre property that encompasses trails and piers, allowing visitors to access the shoreline and take in the flora and fauna near the Choptank River.

You can also enjoy spending time in Trappe’s four parks:

  • Nathaniel Nace Hopkins Park is the newest park in town and is open daily from sunrise to sunset.
  • The Lakeview Community Park features a picnic pavilion, grills, a water fountain, and play equipment.
  • The Veterans Memorial Park features a large gazebo that you can use at no charge, picnic tables, benches, and a water fountain.
  • The Trappe Park has a playground, and you can use and reserve the park free of charge.

If you want to spend time on the water, the Ferry Point Marina includes a boatyard, ship store, and fuel dock.

Small Town Charm

Trappe may be a small town, but that’s part of what makes it so appealing. At Pop’s Market, you’ll find Amish-built mini barns, sheds, gazebos, and more. Head to the Unicorn Bookshop to browse a selection of secondhand books or to Tammy’s Cool Things for incense, crystals, clothing, and jewelry.

When it comes to dining, you’ll have several options:

On days when you’d like more shopping and dining options, larger cities like Annapolis are a short drive away.
